The Voyager and the Liberty
by Sasscat Bu-to-y.
Series: Voyager Fairy Tales
Rating: G
Codes: W for Weird, Alt universe

Summary: "My ship’s faster than your ship" - or so Janeway thinks. A race home will show the winner.

Disclaimer: <Sasscat opens one eye> What, you here again? Fine, thanx Paramount, for letting me play with your sweet little characters, even if they are thick. Prime Directive, my tail!

Author’s Note: Liberty is what Zeborah and Sasscat Bu-to-y call Chakotay’s old ship, the one he rammed into the Kazon in Caretaker. In this story they scared the Kazon off so he’s still got his ship.

Feedback is welcome by the author. Sasscat can’t bite over e-mail! No matter how hard I try. =)

After they were flung into the Delta Quadrant, the Voyager’s crew laughed at the Maquis ship Liberty for the slowness of her pace. The Liberty’s crew laughed right back and said that they would race Voyager home and beat her even with a thirty-nine year old rebuilt engine.

"You’re on," said the Voyager’s captain. "You shall soon see what our warp nacelles are made of."

So it was agreed that they would start at once. The Liberty set off, plodding along at a steady warp eight. The Voyager’s crew, treating the whole matter very lightly, darted off all over the place: inside a living nebula, to the event horizon of what they called a black hole, (yeah, right) and even to the Q continuum - twice! - thinking that they had plenty of time, and that they would soon overtake the Liberty.

Meanwhile the Liberty plodded along, and the Voyager finally arrived home only to see that the Liberty had got in before her.
