| School |
I am a student at Rangi Ruru Girls' School in Christchurch, where I am in the sixth form. (This is the second to last year level before I go to University.) I'm involved in many school activities, not the least of which are my duties as Head Computer Assistant. Just some of these duties include liaising between the student body and the staff of the computer department, keeping the many printers running, training all the other Computer Assistants, and looking after a whole room of iMacs!!! |
| Orienteering |
One of my hobbies is orienteering, a little-known sport which involves using a map and compass to run into spiky plants, and visit ten to twenty 'controls' on the way.
I've competed in several orienteering competitions at the regional and national level, and have gained high places - even a few firsts. I belong to 'PAPO', or 'Peninsula And Plains Orienteers', and have begun coaching a school orienteering team. |
| Computing |
Although not nearly as technically-minded as my father and elder brother Russell, I do have an interest in this area. I've been working closely with the head of the computer department at Rangi to fill out my skills, and that's where I began my interest in web design. After I begged for long enough, I was given this entire site to run, which made me very happy indeed.
I've also participated in some interschool computing tournaments, which I was very proud to win two years in a row. I've written some rudimentary games and April Fools' programs which made some of my friends think the police were after them! But my key computing obsession at the moment is the Internet. |
| Fiction Writing |
I have been writing fiction for some time now, from my early tales about evil bunnies with red eyes to my more recent poetry and short stories. I have been going to the Christchurch School for Young Writers for several years, and have published work in their twice-yearly magazine, 'Write On'. Despite Zeborah's accusations, (and, I admit, my own propaganda) I do not write solely Star Trek fanfiction. (I've recently begun to experiment with Due South fanfiction, as well... :-) )
Fanfiction is a major obsession for me, though, and as such has a few pages in its honour.
My Star Trek fanfiction. |
| Music |
I learned the violin for several years under the Suzuki method, but had to stop due to some weird ear thing that hurt my head on the high notes. I moved on to the clarinet, which I am still learning, and have discovered how to irritate my teacher more than I ever could before by plaing the "James Bond" theme over and over. I also teach myself a little piano, recorder and drums, and from time to time I go into town and busk with Zeborah, singing and dancing. (All money earned goes to the SSS... see below.) |
| The SSS |
Through the Internet I have met many wonderful people. Most of them live in America. The SSS (short for the "Send Sasscat to the States" fund) is a half-joke in our family: the small amount of money I've managed to save which, one day, may be enough to let me visit my overseas friends. While I'm there, I'll realise I forgot to save enough money to get back home and will apply for (and get) a green card, join NASA and get a place on the First Contact team.
No, really. |
| The Elfers (aka Sasscat's Legions of Terror) |
All over the country, I have Elves - people younger and shorter than myself who follow my every command. Elfer Alpha coordinates their activities and reports to me whenever she sees me at school. We're planning to bomb Madagascar and cull the population for slaves as preparation for my plans to conquer the world. As Elfer Omega, it is my duty to either recruit new members into our evil cult, or scare them into submission.
You weren't really interested in that, were you? |
